Cuba: A Revolution in Motion
Drastic changes are now underway in Cuba. In an effort to renovate its socialism, Cuba has embarked on major reforms in its economic system. These were discussed by Cliff DuRand in a talk July 25, 2012 in San Miguel de Allende. He had just returned from a two and a half week visit to Havana where he discussed the reforms with leading Cuban thinkers.
The foreign press has given considerable attention to the laying off of surplus government workers and the expansion of opportunities for self employment. But there are also other vital aspects to the changes, such as the expansion of cooperatives and the decentralization of what had been a highly centralized bureaucratic system. All this and more were explored by Dr. DuRand, who has been leading educational trips to Cuba for over 20 years.
