Why Palestine?

Dr. Pedro Gellert, a professor from Mexico City, will address why the question of Israel/Palestine is an increasingly important part of the progressive agenda. The talk will also deal with some broader questions such as the role of the Israel Lobby, antisemitism, and the one-state/two-state debate. Dr. Gellert is one of the founders of the Mexican NGO ‘Coordinadora de Solidaridad con Palestina (CORSOPAL)’ which supports the human rights of Palestinians. This group of Mexican citizens stands in solidarity with Palestinians as they confront an Israeli imposed system of occupation which many consider worse than the apartheid conditions that existed in South Africa. Gellert will talk about the events of the past ten years leading up to the most recent killings of Palestinians in non-violent protests against Israeli policies. What are the opportunities for solutions to this ongoing conflict? Why should Americans be concerned about what happens between the Israelis and Palestinians?
