Philosopher Joy James will revisit her earlier book Resisting State Violence and examine the January 6, 2021 incursion into the US Capitol and a destabilized democracy amid rising (proto) fascism.

A self-described "rebel offspring of a southern military family,” James critiques authoritarianism, capitalism, white supremacy, and misogyny. A prolific and creative philosopher, Joy James is Professor of the Humanities at Williams College. She has worked with activist organizations for decades. She is the author of "The Womb of Western Theory" and a forthcoming book on "The Captive Maternal." James is editor of Imprisoned Intellectuals; The New Abolitionists; Warfare in the American Homeland; The Angela Y. Davis Reader; and co-editor of The Black Feminist Reader.
